It has been an incredible journey so far!
We began developing candles and other home scented products in October 2014, the goal was to create a product which was produced locally and by hand where possible, to use responsibly sourced materials and to take inspiration from the surrounding area and popular outdoor spaces where the public spend recreational time. Over the course of winter in 2014 we produced over 1000 candles testing our materials, our processes and the quality of our finished products.
In April 2015 we officially began trading at a local farmers market, initially we traded as The Sheffield Candle Company and were a small scale hobbyist at best, at this stage all of our candles were produced at home on a kitchen worktop. Very soon after we would outgrow the kitchen at home and we began looking for our first premises in winter 2015. As the public’s knowledge of our products slowly grew we began trading away from our base in Sheffield and were a regular trader at the farmers markets in Leeds and further a field across Yorkshire, this is when The Yorkshire Candle Company was born.
In October 2016 we officially began trading as The Yorkshire Candle Company. Since 2016 we have expanded our business, we have moved into larger premises, we have invested in larger machinery, we have expanded our product range significantly and most importantly we have remained loyal to our original goal. We still produce every one of our own products by hand at our workshop site in Yorkshire, we use responsibly sourced ingredients and we refuse to compromise on quality.
Our founder and general manager James McKennan has drawn a road map for the future development of The Yorkshire Candle Company as we look towards reducing our impact on the planet while maintaining our product development and high standard of processes. This roadmap includes goals such as becoming completely single use plastic free in the next 6 to 8 months, we are also looking engage with programmes such as One Tree Planted in the coming months which will see The Yorkshire Candle Company actively planting new trees and regrowing the worlds forests.
The production capabilities at Thew Yorkshire Candle Company have been significantly developed over the last 24 months. Our production manager Robert Bane has invested valuable time in the streamlining of processes and procedures at our manufacturing site to offer new services to both small and larger customers such as contract candle manufacturing and bespoke product development for in house production. If you would like to discuss your manufacturing needs with us, please fill in our contact form on our trade enquiry page and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
